Overcoming Jet Lag: Tips for a Relaxing Vacation

When you start your journey, use travel time for rest, especially if traveling by plane. Equip yourself with earplugs to isolate yourself from noise and comfortable travel pillows to help you fall asleep more easily. This way, you will arrive at your destination well-rested.  

Upon arrival at a new destination, organize your day according to your planned activities. Although it may not be simple at first, the sooner you adapt to the new time zone, the easier it will be for you. Expose your body to light to help it adjust to the day and night cycle. When it’s time to sleep, set the thermostat to an appropriate temperature, turn off smart devices to avoid disruptions during sleep, and read a relaxing book before going to bed. A light evening stroll and a healthy dinner will also help you fall asleep more easily and avoid waking up during the night. 

Balanced nutrition plays a crucial role in adapting to the new time zone. In the first few days, eat light meals that are easily digestible. This way, you won’t burden your body with heavy food that could make you sleepier. Meals rich in proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains are a winning combination to supply your body with the necessary energy. Pay attention to your fluid intake—before, during, and after the journey. Water will help hydrate your body, reducing the effects of jet lag. Consult with a doctor about using supplements like melatonin to support your natural sleep rhythm. 

Physical activity can help regulate the circadian rhythm. Outdoor walks or light morning exercises will help wake up your body and keep pace with the new time zone. The pool, sauna, massages, and other wellness services can help relax your muscles and improve circulation, further supporting your adjustment to the new time.
